WATCHMEN

I never got the chance to see Watchmen in the theaters. Well, I was lazy, never went.
But I really like superhero-movies, so I wanted to see this since the first time I laid eyes on the trailer. And so, a couple of mounths ago, I bought it and watched it.
The film is directed by Zack Snyder, and starring Malin Åkerman(swedish yey), Billy Cudrop, Jackie earle Haley and Patrick Wilson, I left a few out. I never read the comic, I read books no comics HELLO, but its not that hard to keep up with whats going on.

Anyways, this movie was also, like The Dark Knight, very smart. You really have to think to understand the meaning, at least I did. As far as the actual heros, I loved, whats his name? Rorschach?
He is pretty badass, I'll have to admit.
And they really made these heros humans. We got to know their problems and feelings in a new level.

And of course, the soundtrack is great. Bob Dylan, Simon and Garfunkel etc. ME LIKEY, no just kidding, I dont talk like that.

This might not be the movie you want to see if you're tired, and want something "easily digestible", but the film is actually really good. Check it out folks!

Avatar

Hello again!
As you know I've been reviewing very famous films, but I assure you all, I will review whatever movies I want. So, a lot of old movies will definitely be reviewed as well!
Anyways, its been a while since I saw Avatar, but I remember it very clearly.
James Cameron took his time since his last film Titanic(not really one of my favourites). But Avatar really shows that it was time well spent, meaning the special effects.
As far as the actual movie is concerned, I mean the actual story, I kinda think it was a waste of money. I have seen five thousonds films like this one. I honestly knew EXACLY what was going to happen when I sat there in the cinema. I don't remember a single surprise during the whole film. And seriously, why pay 300 million dollars for something like this, and not make the story interesting in any way what so ever!

Another thing that really bugged me was when the head- military guy(who is a walking clivché btw) kept saying how hard it was to survive on Pandora, and that they would all look like shit before they got home because of all the scars and shit they were going to get. But never, not ONCE, did we get to see someone coming home looking like that, we didn't even get to see someone getting hurt even a little bit. Strange, says I.

The cast. Nothing to say. They did their jobs. Brought the clichés to life I guess. No jokes aside, they were pretty good.
Anyways, this was worth seeing because of the effects and the technique. But that's it. The film was... entertaining but...lame.
I would give a 6 out of 10.

Batman - The dark knight

The dark knight is a Chritopher Nolan movie. I was thinking about him a couple of days ago, and the thought came to me; Man is he a sucessful director! He's got so many films on imdb's 250 top, it might be a record! Inception, The prestige, Batman begins, memento and of course there is also The dark knight!
Batman is played by Christian Bale (I know folks, third movie in role, but he's good, right? right??)
Anyways, the Joker is played by oh so brilliant Heath Ledger.
I will try to make this review short as well.
The story is great, it' so much deeper and smarter than I ever expected out of a batman-film! Bale is great, Heath is even more great, Michael Caine is great and Morgan Freeman is great.
Man, I love Morgan Freeman. I wish he was my grandpa, or dad, that'd be sweet...
Okey, I'm getting a bit of topic here. What i want to say is this; the movie is extremely entertaining, with a great script and a great cast.
The only complains I have is that Nolan sometimes get a little "hollywood-y", and that the ending is pretty silly. Not the idea of the ending, just the execution.
The dark knight i definitely building up for another batman-film, and I heard there is one in the making... so we'll wait and see!

Empire of the sun

Well, this is Christian Bale's first. I'm guessing he was about twelve - thirteen when shooting this. It's based on the sametitled book written by J.G. Ballard. However, the movie is directed by Steven Speilberg, someone I normaly do not care for. Usually I think his films suck balls, I mean Minority report...? Wtf, right?
Anyways, this I loved. It's just so beautiful.
Its really directed so beautifully, and the script is amazing too. I am equally impressed with the directing as I am with the story. So cred to S.S and also to Ballard!

If you haven't seen this --> DO IT!

American Psycho

Great movie!
A mix between drama and black comedy. it contains a lot philosofy that impresses me a lot! And also, its very very funny. I definitely understand why people love this film so much. It really should be on imdb's 250 top! Christian Bale is fantastic.

I would write a longer review, but i have to go return some videotapes

The Social Network

A couple of weeks ago I went with some friends to see David Finchers new film "The social network". My friends thought a film about facebook had to be boring, but I guess they weren't familiar with Fincher. In my opinion, he can make any filmscenario interesting.
But i must admit even I wondered how he was going to make this movie about facebook. Not because I doubtet him as a director, but because it seemed so far away from his style. We're used to Finchers dark and often very clever movies, could a film about facebook really be made in David Fincher-way? The answer is yes! It definitely can!
This movie is a typical Fincher. It's all in the music, plot and directing. And I absolutely loved it!
The movie is written by Aaron Sorkin. And I have o say, he wrote a lot! The script must have been long as hell.
Anyways the movie focuses on the two bestfriends Mark Zuckerberg (Jesse Eisenberg) and Eduardo Saverin (Andrew Garfield). Mark is a computergenius and Eduardo is studying economics. So Mark gets the idea of a website from to big identical twins, all of these characters are attending Harvard. Later on Mark takes the idea he gets from the twins and develop it into ´"TheFacebook", when he's really supposed to be helping the twins with their website. Eduardo is helping Mark to finance the whole thing, and so they start their journey.
Later on in the film they meet Sean Parker (Justin Timberlake) to ask him whether they should put up ads on their website. Sean is everything Eduardo is not, and Mark begins to look up to Sean. After this the intrigues begin!
From the beginning of the movie we see Mark and Eduardo sitting in court. Edurdo as victim. We immediately realise that something went wrong on the way til the point of them two sitting there. These time jumps goes on in the entire film and it is a very clever way to build up the excitement until the big turningpoint where we get to know what happened, what went wrong, with the two bestfriends.
As I said, the movie has Fincher written all over it. The music is absolutely perfection and the way the structure of the movie as well.
Another thing that impressed me was Aaron Sorkins script. We all know he can write, but I never knew he could be so funny. The script is simply amazing and very humoristic. Marks character is in particular very very funny.
Which brings me to the characters. Of course these characters are based on the real people who created facebook. But their personalities are just guesses and pure moviecharacters. But I think Sorkin did a great job with these characters. He succeds with making us see the story from everyone's perspective. It is truly hard to choose a side in this movie. Even though it might not seem that way at first, we later realise that both Mark, Sean and Eduardo are justified in their actions. The fact that the film succeds with this makes it so much more believeable and realistic. We don't have the typical good cop - bad cop situation.
And now, the actors. Jesse Eisenberg did a terrific job with Marks character. I can not think of an actor better suited for that role. And all the small detailes he brought! Like how he always puts his hands in his pocket on his hood when he speaks! Jesse really brought life into his character.
Andrew Garfield has been a favourite of mine for quite some time actually! He is always great and there's never a false note in anything Andrew does.
And Timberlake, who knew he could act?
So to sum up; Great movie, great structure, great script, great characters, great actors!
GREAT!

And as usual I cant wait to see what Fincher does next!

Remember me

When I saw the trailer to this movie I had no doubt in my mind that I would not see it. BUT then my friend did, and she said it was really good. So eventually i saw it as well, about a week ago.

I am well aware of how much shit this movie has recieved, but frankly I could not care less. Im gonna throw my shit on it as well.

Remember me is a poor attempt to make a deep, "grown-up" film, but like so many others it just ends up in the big BIG dump of american-clihémovies. And on the bottom to.

Alright, I'll try to be reasonable here. The movie is directed by Allen Coulter (to me unknown) and written by Will Fetters. Both american... just thought I'd point that out. Anyways, Robert Pattinson plays Tyler, a 22-yearold man living in New York... where else... just saying. Tyler is dealing with familyissues as well as problems within himself. I guess you could describe him as the sad-for-no-reason type of guy. That was probably the only thing I liked about this movie. But apparently Tylers brother died like eight years earlier, so he is not that type all the way. Even though I really wish he was. Instead there are so many things going on in this film. It is hard to catch what it's about.
He meets a girl, falls in love, starts an oh so complicated relationship with her. And in an attempt by Will Fetters to make us interested in this ladycharacter, who's name is Ally(played by Emelie De Ravin), Will decided that she always eats her desert first. So on their first date when Tyler orders his food she asks if she could see the desertmenu. After this she explains toTyler why this is with a distugsting, cliché goddamn smile on her face. Desert first...what the hell? And her explanation is that she might DIE any second so it would be to bad if she didnt have time for desert. Man, that bugged me.
Ok, back to movie. Well, actually, nothing really happens for a while after that. Basically it is just these to people and their dads trying to figure things out... very slowly. This right here is the bodypart of the movie, and it simply doesn't do. I can sit through any movie, doesnt matter how long it is(I've seen 2001) but this was just so boring. And the fact that the acting isn't on top hardly made things better. Robert Pattinson is good as a thinker with few lines. But the second he raises his voice it just looks and sounds stupid and very unnatural. An example is the scene where Tyler takes a bike(?) to his dads office, who is in the middle of a meeting, and starts to yell at him. This scene is not believeable at all. Robert does not deliver.
The other actingefforts were ok, nothing stood out.

And now, the part that actually made me angry, the ending. In the end Tyler is waiting for his dad in his office - which apparently is located in the world trade center. We see Tylers littlesister sitting in her classroom and the date is written on the board in front of her. 11th of September, 2001. So the movie ends with Tyler being killed in the plaincrash.
No people, it is not a joke. Will Fetters actually wrote that, Allen Coulter actually directed that and my friend actually LIKED that! As I said, this part made me angry. I mean, honestly, why why why did that happen?! It had absoulutely NOTHING to do with the plot. This ending were so off topic it's insane!
They had a story, not a very clear one, but they hade one, and they decided to just shit all over it and kill the leadrole in 9/11? I just don't understand how people can think this is good. It's like if they had put together Remember me with a totaly different film.
Lisa Schwarzbaum described this movie in a very complete way when calling it a, "shameless contraption of ridiculously sad things befalling attractive people".

And that's exacly right.

Hello strangers..

Well, I've read a few blogs in my life, but I am not exacly an expert. So I thought I should start this up by welcoming everyone.

My name is Frida, I live in Sweden and I am very bored. Now that might not be very interesting to you but I hope that my posts will be. My big interest in life has always been culture, meaning human creation. And now on this oh so boring day I have decided to start a blog where I put up my moviereviews. I watch all kinds of movies, old, modern, documentaries, short-films etc. and I will review all of these types. I don't care if no one want's to read this, because its mostly a way for me to practice my writing in english. And also my friends are getting pretty tired of me and my constant yap about movies, so this is a win win.

But, sadly, I know myself rather well, and if everything goes as usual, this blog will be online for about three days. We shall see.

But for now, I would like to begin(or end) with one of my  favourite (not so positive) quotes from the big world of movies; "We are the all singing, all dancing, crap of the world".

Welcome to my blog folks! I know you want to know what I think..
